CASE STUDIES

Public Sector; Launceston Town Hall Renovation Works

Design Engineer; Tom Fewings MEng (Hons)

In 2010 the iconic Launceston Town Hall and the attached Guildhall underwent substantial renovation works. The two buildings were built side by side in the 19th century, the Guildhall in 1851 and the Town Hall in 1887, and thus on account of their age and historical significance the building required careful and sensitive consideration with respect to the modernisation and renovation works.

Foulkes Jackson Fewings was involved in a number of areas of the renovation from the remedial repair specifications to the existing roof and floor structures to the design of structural steel framing and beams including the structural design of the new large glazed entrance atrium.

The Town Hall was successfully formally reopened in early 2011 by Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
